Framing Nature Photography Course
Living Options Devon and Well Image CIC are running an online photography meet up in four sessions in autumn.
The course is available to disabled people, Deaf people (who use British Sign Language-BSL) and people with long term health conditions who live in Devon, Plymouth and Torbay.
It will be a get-together in a small group online with a task to do in between. This will be a photographic task to encourage you to get out and about wherever you can between the four sessions. The projects also cater for those who are unable to leave their home.
The aim is to have a great time looking at photos, talking about them and taking them.
All that is required is an interest in photography and any camera or phone. Participants need to commit to all four sessions. You do also need the ability to download your pictures to a computer and then upload them to wetransfer.com which is a straightforward process.
Course Dates: Wednesdays 10.30 – 12 noon: 21st and 28th September, 5th and 12th October.
The session will be hosted by Vanessa Miles, a Devon based professional photographer and director of Well Image.
Living Options Devon is working across the South West to ensure that people with disabilities and / or Deaf people (who use British Sign Language) can access activities to support their wellbeing.
We will be discussing what makes a good picture and exploring a few rules of good composition and when it’s best to break these! Also, how to ‘see’ good natural lighting for a photograph and how best to utilise this.
You will be expected to upload your photos by wetransfer.com or email them to Vanessa by noon, the day before the next session.
Vanessa will be displaying these images to the group to see how you have all got on. Much of the fun is to see how others have interpreted the ‘brief’ and to hear their experiences. We welcome positive feedback and encouragement whatever the level of photography.
This will be a fun, informal group for those who may not have participated in something like this before and want to dip their toe in the water!
There are a limited number of places available so please secure your ticket soon.
‘This course has helped me to overcome my fears of going out through my front door exacerbated by Covid 19 virus. I have loved everything about this experience. I have spent several years leaving my home very rarely due to my disabilities. Because of that I thought that I could never create something stunning from my doorstep. I have not only found that beauty is everywhere, even in my carpark but I have started to venture out into the world once again. I have found a new joy in my life and I am proud of the pictures I have taken. I now have a creative outlet that I can continue, especially as I have had to stop other creative pursuits due to poor health. I now look around me and notice what there is to be positive about in the big wide world, even if I can’t go too far into it! ‘
