"It is important more than ever to continue supporting our benefacaries during this uncertain time, the grant from Exeter City Council helps us achieve this."

Living Options Devon is delighted to have been awarded a grant from Exeter City Council, the grant enables the charity to redeploy its experienced project staff whose funding has been lost, to provide other core Living Options Devon services to support our beneficiaries through the Coronavirus pandemic.  The funds also enable the local charity to continue supporting its beneficiaries and organisations that represent it.

Diana Crump, CEO of Living Options Devon said " We are delighted to have been awarded the grant, this makes a massive difference in us being able to continue to provide the services and support that people with a disability and Deaf people (British Sign Language users) need from us.  Individuals with disabilities and others with chronic health conditions are the most vulnerable populations susceptible to the Coronavirus, and we have seen an increase in the amount of people contacting us, who are feeling anxious and depressed as a result of the coronavirus. It is important more than ever to continue supporting our benefacaries during this uncertain time, the grant from Exeter City Council helps us achieve this."

Annually over 6,000 disabled and Deaf people benefit from the activities that Living Options Devon provides, a user-led organisation means it has first-hand understanding of the issues facing disabled and Deaf people. The charity was founded in 1990 by Peter Swain OBE following a life changing spinal injury providing him with an understanding of the many barriers that disabled people face, but even more importantly a deep understanding of the areas of support that could be put into place to enable other disabled people to live more independent and fulfilling lives. This includes training, volunteering opportunities, outreach projects and accessible support services.

About Us

Living Options Devon is a well respected user-led organisation which works to ensure that people with disabilities and Deaf people can live the life they choose. Set up in 1990 LOD is a registered charity (Charity N0. 1102489) and a company limited by guarantee (No. 4925281). Based in Exeter and Barnstaple, our charitable aims mean we we can offer services across the South West and share good practice throughout the UK. Being led and run by people with disabilities and Deaf people ensures LOD has first hand knowledge and understanding of the issues facing service users and so is very well placed to increase the influence and voice of Deaf and disabled people. We do this by providing education, training and services which enable people to live the lives they choose.
